SRV Derek M. Baylis on San Francisco Bay

Sailing on San Francisco Bay is always a treat. On Friday Tom Wylie invited me to join him for a sail on the Derek M. Baylis. DMB is a 65 foot CatKetch built especially for ocean research. Being powered by sail, it is less intrusive on the environment and sea life.
The Baylis is part of the “Science Under Sail” program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was in San Francisco as a vital part of a program to tag white sharks near the Farallon Islands just outside the bay.
