The Tiled Steps Project

I am constantly amazed at what inspired artists do in their communities. The Tiled Steps Project was started in 2003 by the Golden Gate Heights Neighborhood Association. These steps are located between 15th and 16th Avenue and Moraga Street overlooking the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco.

The Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave is currently on exhibit at the San Francisco Legion of Honor until June 5, 2011.

Even if you are not a “fashionista”, this is a remarkable exhibit of art. Isabelle uses paper to make masterpieces of fashion based on historic costumes inspired by Elizabeth I, Marie Antoinette, Dior, Chanel and Fortuny. There is even a video of her and her associates as they are creating this art. There are over 60 pieces in the collection.

Today I met Adrian Arias who is the December Artist in Residence at the Kimball Exhibition Gallery at the de Young Museum. Adrian’s object with this exhibit is to generate a collective consciousness about the dangers of excess plastics in the environment.

If you want to see the exhibit you need to hurry. It closes January 2, 2011.

Lands End & Sutro Baths

I took time out on Thursday to explore Lands End and the ruins of Sutro Baths in San Francisco. You can walk along the foundation and watch the ocean from ground level. The walk around the Coastal Trail leads North East towards the Golden Gate Bridge. The parking lot has recently been expanded making it very easy to acces this beautiful San Francisco landmark.

Zack Arias – Artist’s Lament

Zack Arias is a music photographer based in Atlanta. He made the video below for Scott Kelby of photoshopuser.com fame. It was recently posted on Scott’s Blog at scottkelby.com. Zack’s thoughtful piece echos many artist’s lament as they go through artistic depressions and rebirth. This video is especially bitter sweet because shortly after it was made, Zack’s father passed away.
