Tax Day is an appropriate to protest the direction the country is going economically. I watched closely and listened carefully. To me this was a clear example of the meaning of free speech the way the Constitution intended it.

The first video is the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

KSFO Radio 560 was one of sponsors of the event and hosted a table which sold Tee Shirts. In this video, “Officer Vic” delivers some welcoming remarks.

Perhaps the most inspiring speech was from a 18 year old first generation whose parents are Russian immigrants. She worries that the US is becoming more like the Socialist country her family escaped from:

Finally, here are a few of the highlights of average Americans who told of their concerns for the country:

Altogether a very good day for free speech in San Francisco.

Golden Gate Bridge from Fort Point

This is still my favorite angle to photograph this bridge. Today was a particularly crisp and clear with light winds.

Lands End & Sutro Baths

I took time out on Thursday to explore Lands End and the ruins of Sutro Baths in San Francisco. You can walk along the foundation and watch the ocean from ground level. The walk around the Coastal Trail leads North East towards the Golden Gate Bridge. The parking lot has recently been expanded making it very easy to acces this beautiful San Francisco landmark.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Conservatory of Flowers. This model is on view in the West wing of the Conservatory.

Thanksgiving in San Francisco

A truly marvelous feast prepared by our nephew who is a French Chef. Alain and Eileen recently moved here from Paris with thier three children – Lea, Tristan and Julien.

The New California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences officially reopens in Golden Gate Park on September 27, 2008.
This afternoon we had the opportunity to see a preview of this wonderful new project.
The Academy is the home of the Steinhart Aquarium, the Morrison Planetarium and the Kimball Natural History Museum.

Special thanks to Gregory Farrington, Executive Director and Christopher Andrews, Chief of Public Programs and Director of Steinhart Aquarium as well as the Trustees for making this new resource possible.

Buffalo Bill & the Indians on the Beach

Thom Ross has recreated a 1902 photograph of William Cody (Buffalo Bill) taken on Ocean Beach near the Cliff House in San Francisco. Thom was born in San Francisco but now lives in Seattle. The exhibit runs through September 14th and should not be missed. If art should be judged by whether it achieves what the artist intended, I think this is a great success.

San Francisco Palace of the Legion of Honor. September 6, 2008. Another beautiful day in San Francisco. The colors were unusuallly saturated for a summer sunny day.

This is a wonderful collection of portraits. The second half of the nineteenth century was a particularly fertile artistic time. For a photographer, there is an interesting use of both backlight and fill light. Definitely worth a visit.
